Hyundai marked its presence in the Indian car market with the Santro. In time, the radical new small Santro car progressed into the Xing and also initiated another hatchback, the i10. The i10 was launched here in the year 2007 which became a national frenzy then. Novel and trendier models of the i10 came out later and the second generation i10 made its way to Indian car market early this year.
Hyundai offers the i10 in two different engine options and many variants which are the Asta, D-lite, Era, Magna and Sportz. The 1.1 litre iRDE2 creates a maximum power of 69 PS and yields an ARAI rated economy of 19.81 kmpl. The better seller though is the bigger 1.25 litre kappa engine which comes with a VTVT (Variable Timing Valve Train) technology, delivering 87 PS of power and a mileage of 20.36 kmpl. i10 is fitted with 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic transmission gear box. The steering is neither too heavy nor too light and the ride is fairly smooth on all roads. While it may not be an ideal highway vehicle, where the Hyundai i10 hatchback really shines is in the urban setting.
Hyundai’s Fluidic vernadesign concept is very much evident in this five door hatchback. Yet the very first model was not as good looking as some other cars in its segment. The revamped models emerged smarter and soon it was one of the best looking cars around. The front fascia with a large air dam, swept-back headlamps, chrome lined grille and body coloured bumpers and a micro roof antenna, body colour door handles, side indicator lights on the ORVMs, elongated tail lamps, rear bumper reflectors and a trendy full wheel all made it look sportier than ever.
Hyundai i10 wins over most of its rivals in terms of cabin space and quality of materials used inside. The firm seats are well cushioned and offer good support in all the right places with enough leg and head room for 5 adults. It has a decent boot capacity of 225 litres apart from smart storage spaces inside the cabin. The centre console is highlighted by blue black lighted buttons. Comfort features include audio system with USB/AUX/Bluetooth connectivity and good air conditioning. i10 is also blessed with safety features like ABS, child-locks, airbags, reverse parking sensors and many others.
The many variants of i10 are available in Crystal White, Stone Black, Oyster Grey, Virtual Yellow, Electric Red, Deep-ocean Blue, Champagne Gold, Blushing Red, Sleek White and Alpine Blue colours within a price range of Rs 4.18 to 4.99 lakhs. Even after the new generation Grand i10 entered India, the old model is still very much liked and bought by car lovers.
